MoRTH order for mandatory FASTag from 15th Feb 2021:

The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MORTH) has issued a notification making FASTag mandatory from 15th Feb 2021 for all vehicles.

MoRTH order for mandatory FASTag for 3rd party Insurance w.e.f. 1st April 2021 (Dated 07.11.20):

It has also mandated that a valid FASTag is mandatory for getting a new 3rd Party Insurance through an amendment in FORM 51 (certificate of Insurance), wherein the details of FASTag ID shall be captured. This shall be applicable from 1st April 2021.

Fastag, digital mode to pay toll fare across India:

Promoted by National Electronic Toll Collection (NETC), Fastag is a RFID based device linked with bank account or digital wallet, through which the toll scanner scans your card and toll amount will be deducted automatically. Fastag is the way of digital payment of toll fare in place of cash.

Fastag needs to paste in the front windshield screen, at the top and in the middle, from inside of the vehicle. In new vehicle, dealer pre-fixes FASTag to the vehicles. There is a fine of 100 % means to pay double amount of toll fare, if you are in the queue of Fastag and you don’t have fastag.

Fastag benefits to users:

1. Cashless payment – No need to carry cash, the amount will be deducted online and receipt will also be generated online and on SMS.
2. Faster movement – Due to having auto deduction through the Fastag scanning, the time is saved.

Total Fastag issued up to 24th Dec 2020 was 2.2 crore. At present, in India Paytm Payments Bank is the largest acquiring bank under National Electronic Toll Collection (NETC) programme. Paytm Payments Bank has also partnered with the 4-wheeler’s dealers like, Maruti, Hyundai, MG motor, Honda etc. for pre-fitted FASTag for new vehicles.

How to Replace the damaged Fastag?

In case of lost or damaged fastag, replacement has to be requested by customer to the concerned bank or wallet provider. Then, simply he / she has to follow the procedure, new fastag will be issued and the balance of old fastag will be transferred to the new fastag.

My FASTag App, How to download my Fastag app?, Recharge any issuer’s bank’s Fastag on it :

This fastag app is developed by Indian Highways Management Company Ltd. and through My fastag app, you can recharge any bank’s issued fastag through UPI. Through My fastag app, Instant FASTag recharge through Unified Payments Interface (UPI) can be done. My fastag app is available on both Android and iOS platforms.

Check FASTag balance status by ‘Vehicle Number’ on My FASTag App :

National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has updated its Mobile App ‘My FASTag App’ with a new feature to ‘Check Balance Status’ by simply entering the vehicle number. This new feature will help both Highway User and Toll Operator to check tag balance status on real-time basis and eliminate the problem of dispute on tag balance.

Also, the authority has reduced the refresh time limit of Blacklisted Tags from existing 10 minutes to 03 minutes, to expedite update of the status in the ETC system and show the current status in the App for seamless passage. Like the “You are Safe” feature of Aarogya Setu App, the My FASTag App will show FASTag wallet balance status in form of color codes –

• Green for Active tag with sufficient balance,
• Orange / Amber for tags with low balance
• Red for Blacklisted tags.

NHAI Fastag and NHAI pre-paid wallet:

NHAI fastag has been launched by NHAI. NHAI fastag is the bank-neutral fastag, which can be linked either to savings bank account or NHAI Prepaid Wallet using My FASTag App.

For NHAI FASTag users linked to NHAI prepaid wallet, there is a facility of balance enquiry over missed call. FASTag customers who have registered their mobile number can now get the balance of their NHAI prepaid wallet by giving a missed call from their registered mobile number to: 8884333331. This service is free.

FASTag Exempted category vehicle Guidelines and SOP :

There is Guidelines and Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for issuance of FASTags to exempted category vehicle under NH Fee Rules, 2008, issued by Ministry of Road Transport & Highways.

1. Receipt of application and internal scrutiny and processing of application shall be done online by NHAI.
2. NHAI shall be the single nodal point to issue of all exempted FASTag across India. No member banks shall be allowed to issue exempted category FASTag.
3. Exempted FASTag will be issued free of cost to the exempted categories.
4. Exempted FASTag will be valid for 5 years in case of Government vehicles, 1 year in case of private vehicles and to be renewed subsequently as per eligibility and rules. Exempted FASTag for MP and MLA/MLC shall be valid for respective tenure of parliament /assembly.

There is Exemption from payment of fee to Fastag for the attached list of mechanical vehicles. These include vehicles of a physical disabled person, ambulance, funeral van and many high dignitaries of India.

Replacement of same Paytm Fastag for same car / vehicle (RC) or, How to get duplicate Fastag from Paytm?

If you are already an owner of Paytm Fastag attached to a vehicle, like car, but now you want to replace it for the one of the reasons (Car Registraion, RC number must be same):

1. If your Paytm Fastag got damaged by mistake, then Paytm Fastag needs to replace.
2. If your car’s windshield got changed, then Paytm Fastag needs to replace.
3. If your vehicle get lost, then Paytm Fastag needs to replace.
4. If your Paytm Fastag barcode is having some technical issues, then Paytm Fastag needs to replace.

Change of Paytm Fastag for car / vehicle or, How to change Paytm Fastag for different car / vehicle?

If you are already an owner of Paytm Fastag attached to a vehicle, like car, but now you have purchased a new car / vehicle. So, obviously the Registration number (RC) will change and you have to change the Paytm Fastag as well. How to do this, as you can’t transfer your Fastag ?

If you are already an owner of Paytm Fastag attached to a vehicle, like car, but now you want to sell your car. Then you can transfer your Paytm Fastag to another Paytm user. How to do this?

How to check balance amount of your FASTag Account or wallet?

The fastag user can check the balance amount of fastag account or fastag wallet through different modes like online, SMS, mobile application and Customer Care helpline number.

When you register for fastag, you get SMS on your given mobile number. Now, whenever you pay toll by fastag at any toll, you will get an update on the amount deducted. What is Fastag?	It is a RFID based device linked with bank account or digital wallet, through which the toll scanner scans your card and toll amount will be deducted automatically.
Who needs Fastag?	All vehicles except 2-wheelers.
What is the validity of Fastag?	Unlimited or depends on your bank or wallet provider
Is there any discount / cashback for using Fastag?	Yes, cashback of 2.5% upto 31st Mar, 2020.
On which roads, we can use this? Can Fastag be used on all national toll plazas?	Currently, many toll plazas are active and more are adding. To see the list of Active toll plazas, please visit www.ihmcl.com.
What are the charges of Fastag?	Rs. 100, but in adiition to this, banks may charge security deposit and minimum balance amount as per category of vehicles.
Is there any minimum recharge?	Yes, Rs. 100 minimum
How can I buy Fastag?	Through POS by banks at many toll plazas, or some of the bank’s branches or through Paytm, Amazon etc. for home delivery.
If I have more than 1 vehicle, how many I have to buy Fastag?	1 Fastag is for 1 vehicle only. It is strictly prohibited.
Can I use my Fastag for car for another vehicle like Truck?	No, Fastag is issued to a customer based on KYC documents. For example, if Fastag bought for car is found using on truck, then such fastag may get blacklisted.
Can I transfer balance from one Fastag wallet to another?	No, this is not allowed at present.
I have vehicle already fitted with RFID tag, can I use that?	No, but still need to verify from where this Tag is purchased. In future, all the vehicle will come pre-fitted with Fastag RFID tag.
What are the Documents needed?	RC, 2 Passport size Photo. Since Fastag is linked to a bank account or digital wallet, so issuer bank/wallet will do the KYC. So, ID prrof, Address proof are needed for KYC.
Do I need to use separate lane to use Fastag?	Yes. In case you enter a cash-only lane, the FASTag will not be read and cash will need to be paid.
If ETC equipment, scanner of NH is not working, how will I pay?	Manually, by cash.
How would I know if amount is deducted correctly or not?	You will receive an SMS alert in your registered phone number each time a balance is deducted from your FASTag account.
How I will report an incorrect deduction?	You can report an incorrect deduction by calling your Issuing Bank Customer Care Helpline number written on the FASTag. The Issuing Bank will review your request and if found correct, they will revert the incorrect deduction.
Can I get a monthly pass?	Yes, but for this you have to approach the concerned toll plaza.
How can I recharge Fastag?	Through cheque or through Credit Card/ Debit Card/ NEFT/ RTGS or through Net Banking.
What if I lost my Fastag / vehicle,How do I block?	You will approach the issuer bank, tell them to block your card.
What if I lost my Fastag / vehicle, what will happen to my balance?	You will approach the issuer bank, tell them to block your card, get new card activated, then the balance amount will also be transferred.
What is Blacklisted Fastag?	For 2 reasons, Govt. authority request or Negative balance. To come out of this, Govt. authority letter is required and for negative balance, just recharge and it will be active again.
Can I see or get the statement of transactions of Fastag?	Yes, from concerned bank or wallet statement.

I reside within 10 KM of Toll plaza, will I get concessions?	Yes. After activating the Fastag, you have to submit ID and address proofs to the concerned toll plaza. Once it is verified, you will get concessions.
Why are the toll charges different for different vehicle categories?	The vehicles are categorised based on the size and load of vehicle for the welfare of road. That’s why there are also different color themed Fastag for different vehicles.
In case of mis-behaviour of toll plaza staffs, whom I will contact?	To respective Project Directors at the toll plaza or grievances can be emailed to etc.nodal@ihmcl.com
Will Fastag work, if I relocate to other city?	Yes Fastag will work even if you relocate to any other city in India.
What will happen to my Fastag, if I sell my car or vehicle?
Is there any Penalty for overloaded vehicles?	As per NH Fee Rule 2008, the excess load is to be removed and a penalty equal to 10 times the applicable fee is to be paid.
Whether Ex-Servicemen, Defense civilian employees, Patient travelling in a private vehicle, Newspaper / Media journalists, RTI activists, Religious dignitaries, are exempted from Fastag payment ?	NO, they are not in the Fastag Exemption list. They have to use Fastag for toll payment.
