Whatsapp has introduced ‘Disappearing messages after 7 days’ in Nov’20

Whatsapp has introduced disappearing messages of all types after 7 days in November 2020. It includes all types of messages including text, audio, images, videos and others.

The important points of ‘Whatsapp disappearing messages’ feature are:

  1. All types of media including text, audio, images, videos and others will be deleted after 7 days, if enabled / ON.
  2. This will effect the only media, from which date you have enabled this feature. Previous to that date, all messages or media will remain as it was.
  3. It can be enabled for Individual chat and group both.
  4. For individual chat, anyone can enable or disable, while for group, only ‘ Group admin’ can enable or disable it.
  5. If it is enabled and auto-download is OFF , then normally all the messages and media will be deleted after 7 days. But, if auto-download is ON, then the media will remain saved to your device and will be deleted from Whatsapp only.
  6. If it is enabled and user opens Whatapp after 7 days, all the messages will disappear.
  7. If you reply by quoting any disappearing message, that quote might remain even after 7 days.
  8. When any user takes backup of messages before disappearing, the disappeared messages will be in the backup. But, when the user restores same backup, the disappearing messages will be deleted.

This ‘Disappearing messages after 7 days’ feature has been introduced for more personal feelings among us. Also, managing Whatsapp also will be easier than before. The device storage will be lighter.

Whatspp UPI payment to go live in India w.e.f 5th Nov’20

On 5th Nov 2020, NPCI has approved the whatsapp payment to go live on UPI in India in the multi-bank model. Whatsapp has been trying for UPI payment with chat option for more than two years, but could not be approved due to data localisation non-compliance.

Now, while doing chat with some one if you want to pay to anyone or to any food app, shopping centre, e-commerce websites, you can do that in just a click on pay. But for that you need to link your bank details with whatsapp, then only you can make payment directly from whatsapp.

Presently whatsapp UPI payment is already in beta version for 1 million customers only. But with NPCI’s approval of UPI payment, it can increase its user base to 20 million in a graded manner.

As whatsapp has about 400 million users in India and most popular for chat options, it is expected to reach the 100% limit very soon. So, the UPI payment service will not be available to all persons but to only selected one. So, you might be searching for UPI payment option in your whatsapp and you won’t able to find it.

List of popular UPI payment providers In India:

  1. Bank UPI apps from all banks like SBI, IDBI, Union bank, ICICI, HDFC etc.
  2. Google Pay by Google
  3. Amazon Pay by Amazon, an e-commerce company
  4. PhonePe by Flipkart, an e-commerce company
  5. Paytm
  6. BHIM UPI app by National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI)
  7. Mobiwik
  8. Freecharge by Axis bank

Now in the above list of UPI providers, whatsapp has been the latest to join the UPI party. Presently more than 50% transactions of UPI is done alone by Google pay, which also might feel the heat now by whatsapp UPI payment.

Volume capping of 30% for third party UPI apps:

As per NPCI’s 5th Nov’20 order, no third party UPI payment provider can have more than 30 % volume of transactions in UPI. The number of transactions for capping will be taken from the average of last 3 months. This NPCI’s order will be effective from 1st Jan 2021. The existing UPI providers have been given two years of time to comply this rule.

Whatspp has brought the feature of mute for always for chat or messages. This was long pending demand from its users. Even if you don’t want to receive updates from anyone or your one of the many family groups, friends group, office groups etc., the message used to come and irritate you. So, with this option, now you can ignore the group activities by muting the group.

How to mute the whatsapp group for chat forever?

1. First select the person or group, to whom you want to mute.

2. In right top menu, select ‘Mute notifications’ from the list.

3. Then select ‘always’ from the three options – 8 hours, 1 week and always.

And you are done for always from that person or group. Previuosly also, there were three options for muting the chat or message: 8 hours, 1 week and 1 year. But, ‘always’ option has just been added on 23rd OCtober 2020. People are also very happy to see this feature and expressed their joy on social sites like twitter, facebook etc.
